The GPSMAP 1223xsv chartplotter / sonar combo. The 1223xsv is Garmin’s 12-inch IPS touchscreen chartplotter / sonar combo. The 12.1-inch diagonal display (10.3 x 6.4 inch viewable area) with IPS panel technology gives the wide viewing angles, sunlight readability, and accurate color reproduction that the IPS technology brings. The 1223xsv is positioned in the middle of Garmin’s GPSMAP product line – bigger and more capable than the 7 / 8 / 9-inch GPSMAP variants, but smaller and meaningfully cheaper than the 16 / 19 / 22-inch flagship variants. For typical recreational fishing boats and cruising powerboats, the 12-inch is the sweet spot of capability versus cost – you don’t pay for screen real estate you won’t use, and you don’t compromise on visibility.
Built-in sonar capabilities. The 1223xsv has built-in support for the full Garmin sonar lineup. SideVu Ultra High-Definition scanning sonar (the side-imaging sonar that maps structure to the sides of the boat at long range with high resolution). HD3 is Garmin’s entry-level high-performance radar processing tier (above the basic HD radar, below the premium Fantom solid-state pulse compression radars). The 18-inch dome is the compact recreational radar size class – sufficient for boats up to roughly 35-40 feet length-overall, fits on standard radar arches without overhanging the boat. Maximum range is meaningful for recreational use – more than enough for typical coastal navigation and weather monitoring at typical recreational fishing distances.
OneHelm third-party device control. The 1223xsv supports OneHelm – the Garmin feature that brings third-party marine system control onto the chartplotter screen. Compatible third-party systems (digital switching panels, EmpirBus, electric stabilization, lighting control, climate control) appear as dedicated tabs on the 1223xsv display. Replaces multiple proprietary controllers with one centralized chartplotter.
EmpirBus digital switching support. EmpirBus is the marine digital switching platform that the 1223xsv supports natively via OneHelm. For boats specced with EmpirBus digital switching, the 1223xsv is the right chartplotter to integrate with the existing digital switching infrastructure.
Yamaha engine integration. The 1223xsv supports integration with select Yamaha engines via NMEA 2000 – displays Yamaha engine data (RPM, fuel flow, oil pressure, water temperature, trim position) on configurable gauge layouts. For boats running Yamaha outboards, the 1223xsv eliminates the need for separate Yamaha engine gauges – all the engine data displays on the chartplotter screen.
NMEA 2000 + Garmin Marine Network connectivity. NMEA 2000 (the standards-based marine bus) connects engine data, fuel sensors, environmental sensors, AIS receivers, autopilot, and the broader marine sensor ecosystem. Garmin Marine Network (proprietary high-bandwidth Ethernet) connects radar, additional sonar modules, cameras, and additional displays. Multi-display setups with multiple GPSMAP heads share data across the Marine Network.
Built-in Wi-Fi. The 1223xsv has built-in Wi-Fi for ActiveCaptain mobile app pairing. ActiveCaptain features: OneChart chart purchases pushed to the chartplotter, Garmin Quickdraw Community contour data, smart notifications (text messages and calls from paired phone display on the chartplotter), Garmin Helm app integration (mirror the chartplotter to phone / tablet), and over-the-air software updates.
Fusion-Link audio system integration. The 1223xsv connects to Fusion-Link compatible Fusion marine audio head units (Fusion is owned by Garmin) for centralized audio control from the chartplotter screen. Source selection, volume, zone routing, playlist control all run from the 1223xsv. Audio alerts (depth alarms, AIS warnings, autopilot status) route through the Fusion stereo so they’re audible throughout the boat.
