For sportboats, dayboats, smaller cruisers, and center consoles up to about 24 feet, the GO9 XSE is the right size and capability.
What you actually get from this kit. The 9-inch widescreen LED-backlit display with multi-touch IPX6/IPX7 sealing, the Active Imaging 3-in-1 transom transducer that delivers CHIRP sonar plus SideScan and DownScan imaging from a single mount, and the C-MAP Discover chart card that covers your local waters with full-featured vector charts, custom depth shading, high-resolution bathymetry, easy-routing, and tide and current data. Add a transom mount install, run the cables, and you’re fishing.
The Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducer is the right transducer for most sportboat and bay boat use. CHIRP sonar gives you traditional 2D fish-arch and bottom imagery, SideScan throws photo-quality returns out to either side of the boat for finding structure on a search pass, and DownScan gives you the photo-quality straight-down view of what’s directly under the boat. Three sonar views from a single transducer, no separate transom transducers required for each function. FishReveal Smart Target View overlays CHIRP fish marks onto the DownScan structure image so you stop guessing which arches matter.
The C-MAP Discover chart preloaded on the included card is the right entry-level Simrad chart for local cruising and fishing. Full-featured vector charts with depth shading customizable to your preferred color scheme, easy-routing for automatic safe-path generation between waypoints, and the tide and current overlays that matter for inshore navigation. Upgrade to C-MAP Reveal for premium bathymetric and aerial overlay if you fish a region where Reveal has detailed coverage.
Touchscreen control is the GO line’s interface philosophy. Pinch to zoom, drag to pan, tap to select. The Simrad UI is intentionally simpler than the higher-end NSS evo3S system, which is the right choice for boaters who don’t want to learn a deep menu hierarchy. For owners who do want more advanced control, the GO9 also accepts the optional OP40 / OP50 wireless remote for off-screen control.
Networking. NMEA 2000 backbone for engine, autopilot, and accessory data. The GO9’s NMEA 2000 implementation supports CZone digital switching for vessel circuit control directly from the chartplotter, Mercury Smart Tow for wake-shaping with compatible engines, ITC Lighting Bar control, and Honda ECO mode engine information. Built-in WiFi for software updates over any internet hotspot and screen mirroring to compatible mobile devices via the Simrad app. The dual microSD card slot lets you keep the C-MAP chart loaded plus a second card for software updates or chart upgrades.
Radar. The GO9 has a dedicated radar port for direct connection to Simrad 3G or 4G Broadband radar domes, or HALO Pulse Compression radar (the modern solid-state pairing). Radar shows up as an overlay on chart or in a dedicated panel. For boats running offshore, in fog, or in busy harbors after dark, the GO9 + HALO 20 radome is one of the most affordable solid-state radar combinations on the market.
SteadySteer is the autopilot performance enhancement available when the GO9 is paired with NAC-2 or NAC-3 autopilot computers running RPU drive pumps. SteadySteer reduces autopilot response lag and improves heading hold accuracy in chop. For boats running serious autopilot integration, the GO9 supports it without requiring a step up to the NSS evo3S line.
Built-in 10 Hz GPS antenna handles standard navigation positioning. ForwardScan support is in the unit (transducer sold separately), which gives you a forward-looking sonar view ahead of the boat for shallow water navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The 9.56 inch wide by 6.71 inch tall by 3.26 inch deep form factor is sized for typical helm dashes on sportboats and center consoles. Both flush-mount and bracket-mount kits are typically included for the GO line (verify with shipped contents). The unit weighs about 13 pounds shipped.
What this unit isn’t. It is not the high-end NSS evo3S glass-bridge MFD. It does not have Ethernet networking for shared sonar between multiple displays. It does not support StructureScan 3D or the high-end ActiveTarget live sonar (which requires more processing power than the GO platform delivers). For most sportboat and center console use, the GO9 XSE is enough chartplotter and fishfinder. For serious offshore tournament work, the NSS evo3S line is the right step up.
