Raymarine’s solid-state Cyclone in the entry configuration. The base Cyclone delivers 55W of CHIRP pulse-compression radar through a 4-foot open array spinning at 60 RPM, with Doppler target tracking, ARPA, and a commercial-grade IEC 62388 build.

The Raymarine Cyclone Radar with 4-foot Open Array and 15M Cables (MPN T70492) is Raymarine’s solid-state open-array flagship, built for boats that need real situational awareness in commercial-traffic waters, offshore fishing grounds, and busy harbors at dusk and dawn. The package includes the Pro pedestal (E70619 box), the 4-foot open-array antenna (E70623 box), 15-meter radar data cable and 15-meter power cable, the VCM100 voltage converter module, and all the mounting hardware needed for a single-installer day at the mast.

What 55W solid-state means in practice. Older magnetron radars require warm-up, draw significant standby power, and have shorter service life. The Cyclone uses solid-state CHIRP pulse-compression transmission, which means instant-on operation, low standby power, longer service life, and target detection that holds up against larger-pulse magnetron radars at recreational and commercial-cruising ranges. The 55-watt rating refers to peak transmit power, but with CHIRP compression the effective range and target resolution outperform legacy magnetron radars at multiples of that wattage.

Doppler target tracking. The Cyclone directly measures whether each return is moving toward you or away, and at what rate. The result is color-coded moving targets that stand out against stationary returns at a glance. For collision avoidance in commercial-traffic waters, this is the feature that turns radar from an instrument you check between maneuvers into one you trust as the primary collision-avoidance reference. Approaching vessels jump off the screen against buoys, shorelines, and reflections.

ARPA target tracking. Cyclone tracks up to 50 targets automatically using professional-grade ARPA (Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) technology, the same class of tracking used by the United States Coast Guard. Each tracked target gets course, speed, and CPA (Closest Point of Approach) calculations, so you know which targets matter and which don’t. For boats operating in busy commercial waters, ARPA is the difference between watching radar and using it.

60 RPM rotation speed. Most marine radars rotate at 24 RPM, which means a 2.5-second sweep cycle. Cyclone rotates at 60 RPM, so the sweep cycle is one second. The faster update means moving targets are tracked with much better temporal resolution, and the radar picture feels more like live video than the staccato sweeps of slower radars. For high-speed boats or fast-moving target environments, the 60 RPM update is operationally meaningful.

RangeFusion technology. Cyclone combines short pulse and long pulse returns into a single high-clarity radar image, so you get exceptional short-range and long-range targets simultaneously without manually switching range modes. The radar handles boats 50 meters away and ships 30 miles away in the same image, no compromises between near-field detail and far-field reach.

Cyclone Bird Mode. Performance-tuned detection for locating sea birds working bait, with CHIRP pulse compression that gives you the resolution to spot birds rather than just sea clutter. For offshore fishing operations where bird sightings are the lead indicator for finding bait balls and fish, the Bird Mode is genuinely operational. Old radars made you squint at clutter, Cyclone shows you the birds.

4-foot open-array antenna. The 4-foot antenna size delivers superior target separation and range detection compared to smaller dome and open-array options. The narrower beamwidth means two targets at slightly different bearings get resolved as two targets instead of merging into one return. For offshore boats and commercial-traffic operations, the 4-foot is the size that justifies the open-array radar investment.

Aircraft-wing-inspired pedestal design. The pedestal is engineered for extreme marine environments with a best-in-class 100-knot wind rating and the commercial-grade IEC 62388 shipborne radar standard. At 13.1 inches (335 mm) tall, Cyclone’s lower profile allows greater flexibility of boat architecture, easier mast clearance, and more adaptable installation. The innovative pedestal design conceals cable connections for a cleaner mast appearance.

Integration. Cyclone connects to Raymarine Axiom and Axiom Pro multifunction displays via the Raymarine network, with full integration for chart overlay, MARPA/ARPA target tracking, guard zones, and standard radar controls (range, gain, sea/rain clutter, EBL/VRM) through the Axiom interface. For boats running a full Raymarine electronics ecosystem, the Cyclone is the radar that ties cleanly into the rest of the system.

What’s in the boxes. Pedestal box (E70619): Pro pedestal, M10 studs, nuts, washers, mounting gasket, mounting template, 15m radar data cable, 15m power cable, VCM100 voltage converter, cable clamp, and mounting hardware. Antenna box (E70623): 4-foot antenna, threaded alignment guide, washer, spring washer, and nut. That’s the complete kit to commission the radar at the mast without a parts run for hardware.

Install considerations. The pedestal mounts on a radar arch, hardtop, mast, or dedicated radar pedestal with structural support for the antenna assembly and rotating mass. The 15m data and power cables route from the mast to the helm and the boat’s power bus. Cable clamps and the VCM100 voltage converter handle the electrical conditioning. Total install is a marine electronics installer day for a clean job, including mounting, cable runs, electrical integration, and chartplotter commissioning. Not casual DIY because the mast mount, cable routing, and Axiom calibration all benefit from professional setup.
