The Xantrex Freedom X 2000-12 (817-2000-12) is the 2000-watt true-sine-wave inverter for 230V markets – the European / international 230V output variant of the Xantrex Freedom X inverter line. 12V DC input, 220/230/240V AC output (configurable for the specific regional voltage standard), 50 Hz or 60 Hz frequency (configurable). 2000 watts continuous, 4000 watts surge for 2 seconds (handles motor startup loads on refrigerators and microwaves). Built-in 30A AC transfer relay automatically switches AC loads from inverter output to shore power when external AC is connected. Quick-connect AC IN / OUT terminals for fast install. Ignition control input (auto-disable when vehicle ignition is OFF). Wide 10-17 VDC input range covers high-voltage alternators on modern vehicles. Programmable AC under-voltage shutdown (170-220V) for marginal shore power. Operating temperature -20 to +60 degrees C with output derated above 40 degrees C. 91 percent peak efficiency. Optional Bluetooth remote panel for system monitoring (sold separately, part 808-0817-02).

The Xantrex Freedom X 2000-12 is the 2000-watt true-sine-wave inverter for 230V markets – the European, Australian, Asian, and other 230V-region variant of the Xantrex Freedom X inverter platform. For boats, RVs, and trucks operating in 230V regions where the AC loads are 230V appliances and electronics, the Freedom X 2000-12 is the appropriate inverter to convert 12V DC battery power to the 230V AC needed to run those loads. The 12 in the part number designates the 12V DC input version (separate 24V variants exist for boats with 24V house systems).

Important regional note: 230V output. This is NOT a typical North American 120V inverter. The Freedom X 2000-12 specifically outputs 220V, 230V, or 240V AC (configurable for the specific regional voltage standard – 230V for most of Europe, 240V for the UK and Australia, 220V for some other regions). For boats / RVs / trucks operating in North America with 120V appliances, the Xantrex Freedom X variants with 120V output are the right choice (different part numbers under the same Freedom X line). Verify your AC load voltage requirements before ordering – powering 120V appliances from this 230V inverter will damage them immediately.

True sine wave AC output. The Freedom X line outputs true sine wave AC – the smooth sinusoidal waveform that matches utility AC. Universally compatible with any AC load – sensitive electronics, audio equipment, medical devices (CPAP machines especially), motor loads, laser printers, sensitive battery chargers – all work without compromise on true sine wave power. Modified-sine-wave inverters cause buzz, flicker, and compatibility issues with sensitive loads. true sine wave avoids all those issues. For installations powering modern electronics or critical loads, true sine wave is the right call.

2000 watts continuous, 4000 watts surge. The continuous rating delivers 2000W of AC load indefinitely (limited only by battery capacity and the inverter’s heat dissipation, which the cooling fans handle). 2000W is sufficient for typical RV / boat loads at this scale: a microwave (most are 1000-1500W and run within the continuous rating), a coffee maker (800-1500W), entertainment electronics, multiple smaller appliances simultaneously. The 4000W surge for 2 seconds (2X the continuous rating) handles the brief startup current spike of motor loads – refrigerator compressors, well pumps, power tool motors, microwave magnetron startup all draw 2-4x their steady-state current for fractions of a second at startup. The 4000W surge capacity means motor loads start cleanly without tripping the inverter’s overload protection.

Frequency configurable 50 Hz or 60 Hz. The Freedom X 2000-12 outputs at the regional standard frequency – 50 Hz for most of Europe, Asia, Australia. 60 Hz for some markets that use 60 Hz at 220V. Configure the frequency at install via the inverter’s setup menu to match your AC loads. Mismatched frequency can cause issues with frequency-sensitive loads (clocks, motor speed-dependent equipment, some sensitive electronics).

Wide 10-17 VDC input range. The 12V DC input range covers 10V (low battery, just before low-voltage shutdown) through 17V (high alternator regulation on some modern vehicles). Standard 12V battery operation is around 12.5-12.8V at rest, 13.5-14.4V while charging, peak 14.5V or briefly 15V on some alternator-equipped vehicles. The 10-17V range covers all reasonable 12V system operating conditions without the inverter shutting down or behaving erratically.

192-amp DC current draw at full load. At 2000W output, 91% efficiency, 12V input, the inverter draws roughly 192 amps from the 12V battery. Significant current that requires substantial battery cabling – typical 2/0 AWG marine-grade tinned cable for cable runs under 6 feet, 4/0 AWG for longer runs. Voltage drop on undersized cable causes the inverter to fault out at low voltage even when the battery is fully charged. For battery sizing: at 192A continuous, a typical 100Ah deep-cycle battery would last roughly 30 minutes at full load. A 200Ah bank doubles that to 1 hour. For typical intermittent use (microwave for 5 minutes, miscellaneous appliances for an hour total), 100-200Ah handles a typical day’s loads.

91 percent peak efficiency, 87.5 percent full-load efficiency. The Freedom X line is meaningfully more efficient than older modified-sine inverters – 91% peak efficiency means only 9% of input DC power is lost as heat during the inverter’s switching cycle. For 2000W output, that’s roughly 198W of heat the cooling fans must dissipate. Plan the install location for adequate ventilation – the unit needs at least 4 inches of clearance on all sides for proper cooling.

Built-in 30A AC transfer relay. The transfer relay senses external AC power on the AC IN terminals (typical use: shore power for boats, generator output for off-grid setups, or a separate AC source). When external AC is detected, the relay switches the AC OUT loads from the inverter’s output to the shore / generator AC directly – inverter switches OFF, AC loads run from external power. When external AC is removed, the relay switches AC OUT back to the inverter and the inverter takes over. Automatic transition with no momentary power loss to the loads.

Programmable AC under-voltage shutdown (170-220V). For installations where shore power voltage frequently sags (older marina infrastructure, generators with marginal regulation), the Freedom X lets you set the under-voltage shutdown threshold anywhere from 170V to 220V. Below the threshold, the unit disconnects from shore power to protect AC loads from undervolted operation. The programmable threshold lets you tune the trip point for your specific shore power conditions.

Ignition control input. The 12V ignition control input lets you tie the inverter’s enable signal to the vehicle ignition switch (or to a manual switch on a boat). When ignition is OFF, the inverter is fully disabled (zero AC output and minimal standby current draw). When ON, the inverter is active. Prevents the inverter from accidentally drawing the battery down overnight, and minimizes the inverter’s standby current losses during long-term storage.

Operating temperature -20 to +60 degrees C. The Freedom X operates across the full range of typical recreational marine and RV temperatures. Below 40 degrees C, full output is available. Between 40 and 60 degrees C, the inverter automatically derates output power to manage internal heat – meaningful protection that lets the unit operate in hot conditions without burning up the electronics. For typical recreational use, the derate behavior is rarely encountered. for very hot equipment compartments or extended high-load use in tropical conditions, the derate is the protection that keeps the inverter alive.

Optional Bluetooth remote panel. Xantrex offers an optional Bluetooth remote panel (part 808-0817-02, sold separately) that pairs with the Freedom X via Bluetooth. The remote panel runs a mobile app that displays inverter status, configuration, and diagnostics on a phone or tablet. For installations where the inverter is mounted in a hard-to-reach equipment compartment, the remote panel gives convenient monitoring without requiring physical access to the inverter chassis. The remote is optional – the inverter operates fully without it.

Hardwire AC connections with quick-connect terminals. AC IN, AC OUT, and DC connections all use hardwire terminals. The quick-connect terminals at AC IN / OUT make installation faster than traditional screw terminals – snap the wire into the terminal block, lock the retention tab, done. The DC connections use marine-grade studs sized for the heavy 2/0-4/0 AWG cabling.

Install. Mount the chassis on a flat surface in a well-ventilated location near the battery bank. Connect 12V battery cables (positive through a 250A T-class fuse, negative direct) using 2/0-4/0 AWG cable. Connect 230V AC shore input to the AC IN terminals. Connect 230V AC distribution to the AC OUT terminals. Connect the ignition control wire to the vehicle ignition / boat keyswitch. Total install time is typically 4-6 hours for a competent boat / RV owner with reasonable mechanical and electrical skills. Standard Xantrex warranty terms apply.
