The Rigid 201503 is part of the D-Series PRO line, which is what Rigid built when they wanted to push more output out of a tiny housing. You’re getting 30 watts and 3,168 raw lumens out of a 3 by 3 inch cube. That’s a lot of light per square inch, and at the price point it’s hard to beat.
The beam pattern is a diffused flood, so the light spreads out wide and close rather than throwing a tight pencil down the road. That’s the right pattern for fog, dust, and slow-speed work where you don’t want a beam that bounces back at you. If you’re after a long-throw spot for highway speeds or chasing critters down a back road, the D-Series Spot version is what you want instead. What we like about this kit is that it ships ready to install. You get the mounting bracket, the wiring harness with a Deutsch connector, and the switch. So you’re not hunting down a separate connector kit on top of your light purchase. Plan on about 1.5 hours to wire it up cleanly with proper fuse protection. We always recommend a 5A fuse on the hot lead and a clean ground to the chassis, not to a body panel.
The build is what you’d expect from Rigid. Aluminum housing, polycarbonate lens, IP68 sealing, and a Deutsch waterproof connector at the light side. Operating temp is rated -40F to +145F, which covers anything you’ll throw at it short of pulling a rig out of a snow drift in February. The LEDs are rated for 50,000-plus hours, and Rigid backs the housing with a limited lifetime warranty.
One thing to know up front: Rigid labels this Off Road Use Only. That’s standard for high-output LED pods because the light pattern doesn’t meet DOT cutoff specs for street headlights. If you’re putting it on a tow rig, a fishing truck, a trailer, or anything off-pavement, you’re fine. Don’t expect to run it as your primary headlight on a public road.
Common pairings: two of these mounted on a roof rack or bumper for symmetric flood coverage, or one of these alongside a D-Series Spot for a combined flood-plus-throw setup. We’ve seen both done well.
