HDS Live is Lowrance’s flagship recreational fish-finder platform, built around a quad-core processor that drives the SolarMAX HD touchscreen at full responsiveness even under heavy multi-app load. The 12-inch displays render charts, sonar history, side-scan imagery, and the FishReveal Smart Target View at full pixel density, with ultra-wide viewing angles that stay readable through polarized sunglasses. Touch response is the closest thing to phone-like smoothness in the recreational fish-finder space.
The Active Imaging 3-in-1 transom-mount transducer is the headline sonar piece. It combines three frequency bands and three sonar modes in a single transducer body: Medium and High CHIRP (83 and 200 kHz) for traditional fish-arch sonar and bottom imaging, SideScan at 455 or 800 kHz for off-side structure imaging out to 600 feet per side, and DownScan at 455 or 800 kHz for high-detail picture-like bottom imaging directly under the boat. FishReveal Smart Target View overlays the traditional sonar fish arches on top of the DownScan picture, which makes it dramatically easier to identify fish targets that are otherwise hidden in the structure detail. Active Imaging is also compatible with the LiveSight forward-looking real-time sonar (sold separately) for owners who want to see fish react to lures in real time.
Charting is preloaded with C-MAP US Enhanced coverage, which includes 1-foot depth contours on more than 4,000 inland lakes plus coastal coverage across the US. C-MAP Easy Routing automatically plots safe routes around hazards. Navionics Autorouting is supported for owners who prefer the Navionics chart card. C-MAP Genesis Live lets you record sonar bottom data while you fish and build custom high-detail maps of your local waters on the fly, with the maps displayed on the chartplotter screen immediately.
The Point-1 GPS/GLONASS antenna with internal compass is the navigation backbone. The 10 Hz update rate (10 position updates per second) produces smoother chart movement at high speeds than the typical 1-2 Hz update rate of less-expensive GPS antennas, and the internal compass provides accurate heading data for Heading-Up chart orientation, accurate Course-Over-Ground at low speeds (the kind of speed where a GPS-only heading falls apart), and radar overlay alignment if you add a Lowrance radar later. The Point-1 connects via NMEA 2000.
The LR-1 Bluetooth remote controller is the operational refinement that turns a stationary helm into a controllable-from-anywhere setup. Bluetooth pairing to the HDS Live displays, preprogrammed keys for marking waypoints and zooming, and up to five user-programmable favorite functions accessible from short or long press. For trolling-motor anglers operating from the bow while the displays are at the helm, the LR-1 puts the controls where the operator actually is.
Network integration is comprehensive. The 25-foot Ethernet cable connects the two HDS Live displays so they share sonar, chart, and waypoint data, and so the same Active Imaging transducer drives both screens simultaneously. The NMEA 2000 starter kit includes two terminating resistors, two T-connectors, a 2-foot extension cable, a 15-foot extension cable, and a power node. That’s enough NMEA 2000 hardware to run a complete two-display network including the Point-1 GPS antenna, plus capacity to add engine data, fuel data, and AIS in the future.
SmartSteer compatibility extends the HDS Live into the Xi5 trolling motor and Outboard Pilot autopilot ecosystems for hands-free positioning. Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi handle smartphone notifications, the LiveCast smartphone-screen mirroring feature (video, Google Maps, fishing apps shown on the chartplotter screen), and over-the-air software updates. SonicHub 2 audio server integration handles entertainment audio through the chartplotter.
