The Garmin Panoptix LiveScope Plus is Garmin’s second-generation live sonar system, an upgrade over the original LiveScope that has been the mainstay of tournament bass fishing and serious recreational angling for the last several years. Where traditional 2D sonar shows you a scrolling history of where you’ve been, LiveScope shows you live video of fish moving and reacting in real time. The Plus generation sharpens the imagery, reduces noise, and improves target separation enough that the upgrade is genuinely worthwhile even for owners of the original LiveScope.
This SKU is the complete first-time install kit. The LVS34 transducer is the small wing-shaped sensor that does the actual imaging. The GLS 10 sonar black box is the processing brain that connects to your chartplotter. The mount hardware (perspective mount, trolling motor barrel mount, shaft mount) gives you install options for trolling motor mounting (most common), perspective mode mounting, or other configurations. Add a compatible Garmin chartplotter and you have full live sonar at the helm.
The LVS34 transducer has three view modes that you toggle from the chartplotter. Forward mode aims the cone ahead of the boat, which is the mode you use 80 percent of the time when you’re casting to specific fish or working a piece of structure ahead. You watch the bait fall, you watch the fish track it, you watch whether they bit or peeled off. Down mode aims straight down for vertical jigging or for verifying what’s directly under the boat. Perspective mode tilts the cone to give you an overhead bird’s-eye view of the underwater scene, useful for finding bait balls and reading structure layout when you’re searching new water.
Range. Both Forward and Down modes reach to 200 feet at typical fishing depths. Useful range in practice depends on water clarity, depth, and what you’re looking at, but the practical case is that you can see schools of crappie, walleye, or bass at distances that 2D sonar simply cannot resolve at all. Minimum depth is 3 feet, so it works in shallow water down to typical flats and shoreline depths.
The Plus-generation improvements are real. Higher transducer sensitivity means you see fish targets that the original LiveScope would have missed in the noise. Reduced sonar artifacts mean fewer ghost returns, fewer false targets from suspended debris, and a cleaner picture of what’s actually in the water. Improved target separation means you can distinguish two fish stacked vertically instead of seeing one fat blob. Built-in image stabilization keeps the picture steady even when the boat is rocking, which is the upgrade that makes LiveScope Plus actually usable in chop where the original could feel jumpy.
Seven color palettes ship in the firmware. Aqua, Caribbean, Lava, and four others. Different water conditions and different fish species show up best in different palettes. Stained water often reads better in higher-contrast warm palettes (Lava). Clear water reads cleanly in cooler tones (Aqua). Try them all and pick what works for your local conditions.
Compatibility. LiveScope Plus works with Garmin chartplotters that support Panoptix and have the appropriate firmware. That includes most modern GPSMAP and ECHOMAP series units in the relevant generations. Update your chartplotter firmware before connecting the GLS 10 module so the unit recognizes LiveScope Plus (the original LiveScope firmware doesn’t know what to do with the Plus hardware).
If you already own the original LiveScope (LVS32 transducer + GLS 10), you can upgrade just the transducer to the LVS34 separately and keep your existing GLS 10. This SKU is the complete kit for first-time installs.
Power. The GLS 10 sonar black box runs on 10 to 32V DC, with 21W typical power draw and 58W peak under heavy use. Transmit power is 500W. Use a 7.5A inline fuse at the battery end of the run, sized into a dedicated marine-grade tinned wire run. Don’t share the power feed with bilge pumps or other noisy accessories or you’ll see interference patterns on the live sonar imagery.
Mounting. The included perspective mount, trolling motor barrel mount, and shaft mount cover the most common install scenarios. For trolling motor installs (most common), the transducer clamps to the trolling motor shaft below the head. The compass safe distance is 4 inches, so the GLS 10 black box can mount near other helm electronics without throwing off magnetic compasses. The transducer cable is 20 feet long, which handles most boats up to about 25 feet.
