Furuno’s flagship NavNet TZtouchXL multifunction display in the 16-inch all-glass configuration. The TZT16X is Furuno’s 16-inch member of the NavNet TZtouchXL family, the new generation of NavNet glass-helm chartplotters that replaces the long-running TZtouch3 line. It’s the display owners step up to when they want a true glass-helm aesthetic (all-glass face with no plastic bezel intrusions), the highest-resolution Furuno chartplotter platform with TZ MAPS BathyVision, and the integration headroom to drive Furuno’s commercial-grade radars, sonars, and autopilots from one screen.
The display itself is a 15.6-inch wide-format IPS LCD at 1920 by 1080 FHD resolution, with 900 cd/m2 typical brightness and 16.77 million colors on the chart plotter (64 colors on radar and fish finder, which is standard for Furuno). The all-glass design means multiple TZT16X displays can be mounted edge-to-edge for a continuous glass-helm look, which is the install pattern that defines modern flybridge cockpits and sportfisher tower stations. The multi-touch glass tracks two-finger pinch-zoom and the new Edge-Swipe gesture for accessing settings without burying menus.
Inside, a hexacore processor drives the operating system. Furuno’s NavNet revisions before this one ran on quad-core silicon, the move to six cores produces a noticeable change in how the display handles split-screen layouts under load, radar plus dual-frequency sonar plus chart plus instruments all running live without lag. The TZT16X also has more system memory than any prior NavNet MFD, which is the spec that matters most when you’re scrolling a TZ MAPS BathyVision chart at high zoom levels.
TZ MAPS is the headline charting upgrade. It’s a tile-based chart format that lets owners purchase and download charts directly on the MFD over Wi-Fi, no more chart-card swaps. BathyVision is the bathymetric layer inside TZ MAPS that delivers 3-inch contour resolution, which is three times sharper than any other recreational bathymetric chart on the market today, and the contour data can be overlaid on raster, vector, or satellite chart backgrounds. Custom user objects (waypoints, marks, tracks) can be shared with other registered TZ MAPS users through the TimeZero moderated service, with each user retaining the ability to hide or show shared content on dedicated chart layers.
AI Routing is the navigation-side feature that TZ MAPS unlocks. The MFD takes the boat’s draft and air draft, the route start and end, and the current chart context (depth, hazards, no-go zones, restricted areas) and computes a suggested route in seconds. It’s the next generation of auto-routing, where older auto-routers required you to verify and tune the route segment by segment, AI Routing produces routes that pass coastal cruisers’ inspection on the first try.
Risk Visualizer and AI Avoidance Route are the safety features that unlock when the TZT16X is paired with a Furuno DRS-NXT solid-state Doppler radar. Risk Visualizer projects a 360-degree halo around the own-ship icon and highlights approaching radar targets by predicted collision risk, dynamic icons appear over targets where the closest-point-of-approach is short enough to matter. The AI Avoidance Route function then takes that risk picture, plus the chart context, and dynamically computes an avoidance route around the hazards that you can send to a Furuno NavPilot autopilot with a single tap.
Sonar is built in. A dual-channel 1 kW TruEcho CHIRP fish finder runs on the standard 50/200 kHz CW frequencies plus 40-240 kHz CHIRP across Low, Medium, and High bands, with display range from 2 to 1200 meters (4,000 to 8,000 ft with shift). The fish finder supports ACCU-FISH, A-Scope, Auto Fishing/Cruising, Bottom Discrimination, and TruEcho CHIRP with compatible transducers. The MB1100 matching box enables 600W or 1 kW transducers that need impedance matching. For deeper water, the DFF3-UHD network module adds 2 kW or 3 kW TruEcho CHIRP, and the BT-5 Booster Box pushes that to 5 or 10 kW with the right transducers.
Side-Scan is also built in. CHIRP Side-Scan runs at 220-240 kHz or 445-465 kHz center frequencies depending on transducer, with 750 feet of display range to each side and four color palettes (green, blue, amber, white). Compatible transducers include through-hull, paired, and transom-mount options at both frequency tiers. Side-Scan can run full-screen or in 1/2, 1/4, or 1/6 split layouts.
The user interface is rebuilt around customization. The Page Builder lets you save up to 10 custom screen combinations (vs. 4 on the prior TZtouch3), with up to 6 different components in a single split-screen layout. Fish-It, Drift-It, and Follow-It automate trolling patterns, drift control, and target-following respectively, sized to save fuel and time on fishing days.
Networking is comprehensive. NMEA 2000 (with the full Furuno PGN list), NMEA 0183 serial output, 1000 BASE-T LAN, USB 3.0 for touch-monitor and control-unit accessories, HDMI 1080p video input and output, plus internal Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n). The chartplotter handles 30,000 user points, 100,000 ship’s-track points, and 200 planned routes (500 points per route). GPS is internal: 72-channel GPS plus WAAS SBAS, 3-meter accuracy with WAAS, 10 Hz update rate. Power supply is 12 or 24V DC, operating temperature is -15 to +55 C, and ingress protection is IP56.
